The project targets 8 disciplines namely food, beverage and beauty therapy, textile technology, mechanical Technology, agricultural machinery technology, welding technology, electrical technology, Automotive Technology and civil engineering technology.
It also has components for training 1190 trainers on utilization and maintenance of the equipment, developing long and short programs curriculum and supporting vulnerable youth and women with scholarships.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
1. To increase access and promote equity and improve quality and relevance of TVET training by rehabilitation of Technical and Vocational Training Workshops in Kenya.
2. To increase access and promote equity and improve quality and relevance of TVET training by establishment of Technical and Vocational Training Laboratories in Kenya
3. To increase access and promote equity and improve quality and relevance of TVET training by establishing and upgrading Technical and Vocational Training workshops at 70 TVET institutions.
4. To transform skills development using science, technology and innovation.
PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS
The project made notable progress in equipping and strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country. Ten TVET institutions received equipment in three specialized disciplines—Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, and Rapid Prototyping— aimed at enhancing hands-on training and innovation.
In addition, 144 TVET institutions were supplied with modern equipment across ten disciplines, including Agricultural Value Addition, Mechatronics, Food Processing Technology, Fashion Design Technology, Mechanical Technology, Agricultural Machinery Technology, Welding Technology, Electrical Technology, Automotive Technology, and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Technology. To ensure effective use and sustainability of this investment, the project also implemented a strong capacity-building component that trained 314 trainers on the utilization and maintenance of the equipment.
Further, the project supported the establishment of specialized training hubs by funding two TVET institutions to set up centers of excellence in Blue Economy and Agricultural Value Chain Development. To strengthen linkages with the private sector, eight private sector grantees are being funded to develop innovations for skills development, with a special focus on empowering vulnerable groups and women in informal settlements.
