The State Department for Technical Vocational Education and Training derives its mandate from Executive Order No. 2 of 2023 on "Organization of the Government of Kenya". The State Department promotes access, equity, and relevant and quality technical and vocational education and training. The State Department does this through the development and management of Technical Vocational Education policies, management of Technical Vocational Education Training, Institutes of Science and Technology, National Polytechnics, Vocational Educational Training Institutions (TVETs), Technical Training Institutes, and Youth Polytechnics; registration of TVET Institutions; development of policy and standards for Youth Polytechnics and Vocational Training; and management of Apprenticeships and Training of Technical and Vocational Training.
